Memorias (2021) Memories (2021)

Siempre he tenido mala memoria.

Pura magia. Cuidad el olfato.

I have always had a bad memory. Beyond the joke, it has become something that strongly defines my identity, for better and for worse. It is something that sometimes exasperates the people around me but, above all, it worries me. Now and then I make lists of the books I am reading or the films I have seen, but I soon abandon them. What worries me most is that my mind might dissolve stories, experiences and people. Memories are an extremely valuable treasure, perhaps the most valuable of all, because it is in them that we can return to what is no longer there.

Memories is an anti-book, as fragile as some of my memories. A selection of fourteen moments from a more or less specific period of my life. Valuable, powerful moments fixed on light, volatile fabric. The book is not easy to read because it folds, slips and tries to hide its information, just like my memory.

Perhaps the counterpoint to my poor retention comes from my sense of smell. Sometimes, when a scent enters my nose and floods my brain, my mind reaches a memory so vividly and powerfully that it feels as if I were in that very moment: the sensations and the perception return to the remembered instant. Pure magic. Look after your sense of smell.
